As we are planning to use Select for a few remote sites in a HA setup we are also trying to break it and see how we can recover...
The two nodes mirror their aggregates which is nice, and of one of the nodes shuts-down and other takes over if the mediator agrees...
This is all rescribed in the manual, what isn't described it how to recover from a total loss of one of the nodes... lets say we do not have a backup of the node, we just want to recreate it and join the cluster.
This is all possible on bare iron nodes, but somehow this isn't described anywhere, or am I just not looking hard enough? 😉
#ONTAP Select, recovery of cluster...

I think the process is similar.
The procedure to recreate a node exists but it is managed through Support and not publicly available. They want to control it due to the complexity and variables involved.
Ah ok. Yeah that makes sense, but it would be nice to have that in a publically consumable KB.
@wild walrus FYI.
https://kb.netapp.com/onprem/ontap/ONTAP_Select/How_to_recover_a_failed_OTS_Cluster_node I talked to Jonathan and there is this KB.
@sharp echo not sure what you searched but we can update this to make it searchable.
Thank you for that, not sure why I was unable to find that document, but it explains it perfectly 🙂
Good stuff. What did you search for? Let me know and I'll fix it so it's searchable.
Well, as always, when you know the abbreviation to search for like "OTS" it finds it.. To be honnest I cannot remember what I searched for, but my guess would be "ONTAP Select node recovery" which I also just tested, and it didn't present the above document amongst the first 20 hits... you do get something like this: https://kb.netapp.com/onprem%2Fontap%2FONTAP_Select%2FONTAP_Select_node_VM_recovery_in_case_of_disaster which isn't of much use.... maybe because I'm just a reseller, I am not allowed the "internal" documents..
I would like to know the same thing, but can also not access the KB. 😭
