I'm a little baffled by the lack of attention around this issue.
Perhaps I didn't get some sort of "Bulletin".
If you have E-series running 11.70.4* behind SG6060 units (probably the majority) you are basically not getting use of your SSD disks for read-caching.
This is due to bugs ECD-16131 and ECD-15743 on the E-series side.
"StorageGrid Appliance" update 2023_08 is what you need to use to get to 11.70.5P1 . Read the Release Notes, etc.
You will see a significant reduction in metadata lookup times (ca.15ms -> under 2ms) progressively in the period 12-24 hours after the update as the SSD Cache warms up.
Even if this is an incredibly time-consuming task (ca. 75 min per node), a performance improvement of this degree should be worth it. It is easily done on the SG GUI for newer SG versions.
#You should be running 11.70.5P1 on your E-series storage with StorageGrid

Interesting.... So I will Update in the next 2 weeks, thx for explaining
I just heard that Santricity 11.80GA is withdrawn? Is this correct?
11.80GA is a part of 2023_11 and isn't recommended if you have expansion shelves
11.80.1 is supposed to fix this whenever it gets released
you have to do 2023_08 before you do 2023_11 anyway, the bug fixes were apparently backported to 11.70.5P1
whoa, awesome!!!
if you start digging into some of the S3 and Cassandra graphs you'll see a lot of functions are just much faster... Commit log latency, Time spent reading by table and consistency level, Remote message latency. Basically everything with metadata is faster and the graphs are smoother and that frees up the spindles for faster data put/get (S3-node graphs)
and all of the response time warnings in the Event Logs on FAS systems about latency towards StorageGrid also magically disappear
yeah, probably.... I start by moving all the dashboards from the admin host to our central grafana system and then I will dig through all the data available
Totally agree. E-Series Firmware 11.70.5P1 is the version you want to run on all E-Series based appliances SG6060, SG5760, SGF6024 and SG5712 right now. As pointed, the most benefit has the SG6060 due to the SSD cache issue introduced in the 11.70.4x releases.
By the way, you have to have installed 11.70.5P1 before you can update to 11.80.x. So it’s a good idea to update to 11.70.5P1 now to be prepared for an update to 11.80. I do NOT recommend to update the 11.80GA right now due upgrade issues that are introduced. Let’s wait for the next releases of 11.80 and see if they are better. If you are already on 11.80 you are safe. You receive new appliances with 11.80 so not try to downgrade them.
StorageGRID really needs a better way to advise users/customers of what version of SANtricity they should be running. The Software Upgrade section, or the SANtricity Upgrade section, should check in and advise of a newer recommended version; like occurs with Major Version and Hotfixes.
And also, add a note on the SANtricity Upgrade page of a list of NVSRAM files that the currently installed Grid has. Customers aren't sure if their Grid will have NVSRAM files for the latest SANtricity. The only way I know to verify is by reading the release notes for every patch and see if a new NVSRAM was added.
I totally agree. Also, I'd Like to see detailed information on all Bugs that are fixed in Storagegrid and Santricity, Just like the BURTs in ONTAP (or at least the Public ones)
The readme file of the hotfix provide the list of fixes included in the hotfix.you find the readme right handed on the download site. Similar information is provided in the readme of the E-Series Firmware.
Hi @glacial vapor, which dashboard that graphs come from?
