When you deploy a ONTAP Select cluster, it creates a few iSCSI mounted mailbox disks on the deployVM.
If communication with the deployVM is lost for some reason, a failover cannot happen on the ONTAP Select cluster...
Is it possible to use another mediator (like to one used for MetroCluster?)
One of our customers would like one central deploymentVM which then sets up a number of smaller clusteres on remote sites with typically only 2 ESXi hosts.
For this to work, the ONTAP nodes would have to have iSCSI connections back to the deployVM... it might be better to have the mediator locally (maybe on a smaller linux box)
If we use local deployVMs, we no longer have the central control...

Yes, it is possible. See here: https://docs.netapp.com/us-en/ontap-select/task_cli_deploy_recover_two_node.html#prepare-to-recover-the-deploy-utility
