Warning. Because an identified risk of potential loss of data, customers with ONTAP systems that include the 960GB X386_TPM5V960ATE SSD FIPS encrypted drives are advised to avoid upgrading to this release of ONTAP.
Wait for 9.12.1P9 or 9.13.1P6 later this month!

If these specific drives are installed and the system upgrades to the affected releases the drives will lose the last allocated 160GB of drive space; it will be zeroed and lost.

For root-data-data partitioning this means P3 (root) and some of P2 (data) will be lost.
For non-partitioned drives this means the last 160GB of allocated drive will be lost.

@tepid folio Where did you get that info regarding "last 160GB of drive space goes kaboom"?

It was a heads up notification for partners.

The 160GB sounds suspiciously like those drives were originally 800GB drives that were later firmware-updated to 960GB. And now something security-related during the ONTAP upgrade process triggered a "secure erase" of the additional 160GB...

That is correct

I've confirmed with the release team that neither of the issues described in these two bugs (1596739 nor 1598576) are present in 9.14.1RC1, which was published yesterday. We've got a thread about the release here: https://discord.com/channels/855068651522490400/1176676836667822111

These issues ONLY exist in 9.12.1P8, 9.13.1P4 and 9.13.1P5. No other releases are impacted.
