Does anyone have the Ontap Simulator installed on Vsphere 7 ? I know it is not supported but i thinks with some customization it will work, but i do not know these setting.

Last time I tried it was disabled feature … like a “multi disk” feature that was disabled in esxi 6.5. Flip that bit and it used to work. Not sure about recently. Haven’t tried since then.

#

Maybe it was “multi-writer”

#

Would not do it in a production environment though!!!

Your better off with ONTAP select

@balmy charm do you remember?

multi-writer only comes into play if you're building an HA pair. the plain old VHA vsim works fine on ESX. The main difference is the NIC settings but those get converted anyway when you deploy it.

#

the old ESX builds had more ram assigned and larger default disks, but those are pretty trivial changes.

I think at least in the past there was a problem that the disks were segmented and that ESX didn't support these so they had to be converted to "flat" disks using vmkfstools... no idea if this is still an issue (I have the luxery of multiple physical lab systems to play with so I don't need the simulator 😉 )

thats the other one....the flat disk thing. ran into that at one point also

Yeah. That was a real nuisance back when the sim was distributed as a tgz archive instead of an ova. If you ever have to dig up those old version for some reason convert it to an ova first.
