So my company is receiving second hand AFF8040s, and we are pretty sure they were wiped and set to factory default. But just in case they are not, and we did not have IPs or credentials, what would we need to do to reset the machines to factory default?

license keys and the rest is just to watch the boot and stop it for the boot menu... pick an option for reseting... you may just be receiving a lot of electronic waste without license keys and if they're old license keys for ONTap 7, just slightly more useable electronic waste

I do have license keys and they match the expected pattern. Of course moment of truth is when I actually lay hands on the equipment.
But other than licenses I am glad that its as simple as every other server to reset if need be.

If you can get a hold of an ONTAP installer that is 9.2 or later, you can use Special Boot Menu options 9a & 9b to vaporize the current configuration. The result will leave you at the 'cluster setup' prompt without any licenses or configuration present.
