Hi NetApp team, I have been pointed in your direction by Dean Steadman for some help - I work for SquaredUp (https://squaredup.com), we make a plugin driven dashboarding tool. We have a mutual customer who is looking for us to build them a NetApp plugin, but we have no NetApp hardware ourselves to develop against.

Do you have a NetApp simulator, ideally with demo/dummy data that you could point me at for us to develop against? we have already taken a look at the materials here https://devnet.netapp.com/ontap.php but without access to something to develop against, building our plugin is fairly impossible.

Any help is appreciated

Thanks,

Bruce (Product Manager and Engineering Director at SquaredUp)

Thanks Mamoep! When I try and access this link I get this error (I am guessing as we are not a customer) should I speak to support or is there a better approach

Why don't you ask your customer who wanted the plugin? If they operate NetApp gear they should be able to get it for you.

I will give that a go, thanks!

Hi Bruce - thanks for reaching out. I’ve tried getting people access to the simulator in similar circumstances and unfortunately it has been quite difficult unless they can get approved for partner status (.. on the basis of existing solutions 🤦🏻‍♂️). So I concur - get the customer to grab it. Sorry!

Limiting access to the simulator like this seems quite counterproductive to me, since it hinders widespread adoption of NetApp support, when a random OpenSource developer/community or even commercial SW vendor can't simply start working on a plugin/module/support for NetApp by utilizing the simulator.
The simulator wouldn't even have to really support huge volumes/actual data - just mocking certain API responses via provided fixtures would be more than enough in 95% of such cases.
