#Expand LUN size past 100TB?

Hi there,
We have a few LUNs on our E-2860 that were initially created at 100TB. They are mounted on a Windows 2019 host via Windows iSCSI initiator and ReFS on top (no use of storage spaces)
We recently tried to expand one of these LUNs to 120TB, and everything went well in SANtricity, but we never got the space on the host?
We of cause tried to rescan and even reboot the host, but the extra space is nowhere to be found?
We found a bug report on an E-Series problem that stated that it may take up to 30 minutes before the space was available, but we have been waiting a week now 🙂

Is this a known issue? Or have we missed something? We have checked different limits, and to our knowledge there are not around the 100TB.

Any help is very welcome... we will of cause open a case if there is nothing obvious we have missed 😉

Hi @shadow solstice! Sorry to hear you're having issues getting Windows to recognize the newly added capacity.

From this docs page, "Select Home › View Operations in Progress to view the progress of the increase capacity operation that is currently running for the selected volume. This operation can be lengthy and could affect system performance." https://docs.netapp.com/us-en/e-series-santricity/sm-storage/increase-capacity-of-a-volume.html

If it has been a week, surely this has completed by now, but just wanted to make sure there are no operations in progress. Adding 20TB on NL-SAS drives may take a minute 🙂

From the Windows side, are you using Disk Management to extend the volume? If so, are you not seeing the additional 20TB as unallocated on the disks? Here's some Microsoft documentation on the process, and a couple of other tips:

Hi again... well I have opened a support case. They tell me to follow this: https://kb.netapp.com/onprem/E-Series/Hardware/How_to_Increase_Repository_Capacity_for_thin_provisioned_volumes_on_E-Series_systems but it point towards the Enterprise Manager software which we do not use... (we just use the web gui).. I have tried to install the software and regiester the storage systems, yet they keep telling me that they cannot manage the storage systems, and links to the webpages... but maybe I am doing something wong here...

Hi @shadow solstice! Since you mentioned you are using an E2860, this would fall into the "SANtricity System Manager" portion of the KB:

Unlike previous versions of CFW and MSW, starting in 08.30.x.x when using System Manager, the SAM automatically expands the allocated capacity based on the allocated capacity limit (no option for manual expansion available). Also different is the keyword repository is removed and instead allocated capacity is used.

I'm a little unsure of why full Thin Volume allocated capacity being maxed out would be related to your original question though.
