#NS224 NSM100 Shelf Firmware Update is bumpy

I run an AFF A900 MetroCluster IP with switched NS224 shelfs. I noticed on two different occasions that the shelf firmware update leads to a short IO halt that is noticable by the clients (wafl.cp.toolong events). Is NetApp aware of this behavior or is there anything I can do to make the update more smooth?

Strange. Are your disks properly multipathed with both paths working?

Yes. Otherwise I would expect even more impact. 😁

i aso run an AFF A900 MCIP but with direct attached NS224 shelves and didn´t see any client impact during the shelf FW update .... strange! 🤔

I would suggest opening a support case on that one so it can be looked into closely. A shelf firmware update generally speaking should not cause any major noticeable impact.

As a perf engineer I can confirm this is not expected nor proper behavior. Something is broken.
