I have this slide in my office for the last few years. Is there an updated version (or at least a list with the current code names) available?

Looks like the slide exists, but I don't know who to get it from. Take a look at this moment in the video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=25zR_D2aMf0&t=398s

ONTAP 9.7: Neuigkeiten & Verbesserungen:
• System Manager Next
• MetroCluster IP Op...

Those dates are incorrect, as you'll see.

That's awesome but we NEED the images and names for 9.12 and 9.13 🙂

I'd ask your acct team @onyx fern . We can get the info but don't wanna get in trouble legally.

We need to get some Bell's beers in there!

(you can usually find the names in the RC releases)

you can also see it in the man pages

agile timber
#

wait I though 9.11 was Hopdevil?

mossy stump
#

I don't know what I can confirm or deny, but I'll say that Hopdevil isn't on my list of release names 😎

sorry to reanimate this thread

anyone have the codename for 9.14? Just for some internal banter and curiosity

agile timber
#

ONTAP 9.14.x - ClawHammer
ONTAP 9.15.x - Mighty Squirrel
ONTAP 9.16.x - Cloud Stream

#

you can see the code names in the manual pages since some releases back

Had a customer back in the day that had most of their IT equipment named after Belgian beers... so an old FAS900 was called "Gambrinus-Light" and "Gambrinus-Dark" 😉

We're still waiting for some more German beer brands to show up. We actually tried to find a way to get some crates of local beer to the people involved some years ago, but couldn't find out how to reach them

#

My coworker joked that we could submit a beer with an Umlaut in the name ("Tannenzäpfle") to completely DoS the whole development environment because it probably can't deal with non-ASCII characters 😄

@minor thicket Maybe you can help out here 🍻

minor thicket

i thought we had a warsteiner in there way back in the day. We changed 9.11 from Hopdevil to Manhattan to respect the numbers.

agile timber
#

5.3 was Becks, I think that was the only German beer brand, at least from what I could find out (my list goes back to 5.1 so if it was before then I don't have it 😉 )

minor thicket
#

Yeah.. My bad. Metropolitan (which is a beer from Manhattan, NYC

#

I think we started beers in 4.x. We had some Dilbert names, 3 stooges and others prior

this is the oldest PDF screenshot I have... yeah, I know it says "NetApp confidential" on it, I hope it's okay to post here 😂

I always wondered why 9.0 and 9.1 shared the same code name. Any insight into that? was 9.1 basically a 9.0Px release?

minor thicket
#

something like that. 9.0 started as 8.3.3 or 8.4. and we decided to change the major rev

In the old KB (that was sadly replaced a few years ago) the code names were pretty nice for searching "hidden" stuff. If you searched for e.g. "Longboard", you would see (in the search results) text excerpts from hidden articles. You couldn't click on them (access denied) but the text excerpt on the results page often was quite interesting in itself 🙂

#

sometimes BURTs etc. had "tags" like "KB.x" or "RR.x" that you could search for, that wouldn't show up in the public version of the bug, but the search results showed something like "fixed in RR.0" or "update to KB.x" (RR.0 meaning Rolling Rock.0, i.e. 8.1.0, and KB.x meaning 9.4.x etc)

#

too bad we're now stuck with things like Partner Hub, where the search results cannot even be sorted by date properly 😢

If any of you ever want to send beer to the RTP office, let me know! 😆

somber heron

this PPT has two slides with all the codenames/beers in it

agile timber
# somber heron

also goes back to 5.1 only though. The earlier codenames have not survived it seems

agile timber
#

well so we now have like 5 people scouring the web for images of beer cans that look similar to the blurred one for 9.17.1 from that presentation... Work performance is seriously gonna suffer today 😂

I always thought the best thought out version was 5.2 -> Dos Equis
Two Beers -> Two Filers (first HA version for NetApp Release 5. It was NOT ONTAP until I recall 6.0)

agile timber
#

6.0.1 still wasn't called "ONTAP". First release I have that has any mention of "ONTAP" in the kernel is 6.3.1 ... too bad I don't have any releases between 6.0.1 and 6.3.1 so I can't pinpoint it more exactly

#

oh and I just found out that ONTAP 5.0 was apparently called "curly"? is that a beer brand?

#

4.3 has "larry", 4.2 "moe" ... probably SImpsons references?

acoustic iron
#

three stooges. Larry moe and curly

agile timber
#

ah 🙂

acoustic iron
#

after curly they moved to beers 5.1+

somber heron
agile timber
#

not yet. From the (blurry) picture, it looks very distinct, but our searches have not turned up anything yet. I guess it's a rather small local beer? 😉

lime plover
#

is it from Australia?

#

...if only there was a way to check out ONTAP 9.17.1 EAP 👀

took me awhile to figure it out - but I assure you it is possible (I didn't use internal resources :P)

Maybe we can encourage @jagged beacon into bringing it back, over here

wow I think I found it! And yes, it's a really cool name 🙂

#

so now we've gone from trying to find the beer brand to trying to find out where to buy it in the EU 😄

mossy stump
#

Now that one is going to be tougher I think. I don't even know how I can get it here in North Carolina.

jagged beacon

it's pretty common around these parts.

Before then and actually up to 5.0 I think it was just

Not sure when the moniker NetApp kicked it exactly. That was around the time of the $75000 logo that looked like the nut/bolt
