Good morning,

I come to you because my school received a donation from a company, we recovered a NetApp FAS2220 and a DS2246 bay.

We are looking to control it and update it, but each time we try to access the download link for the tools, we find ourselves in access denied.

For information we are on a FAS2220 with 2 controllers in version: NetApp Release 8.1.4P8 7-Mode: Wed Feb 4 02:08:52 PST 2015

Thank you in advance for your help.
Ps: Excuse my bad english

Hi Thibaut!

Sadly I don't think th fas2220 is supported in any capacity at this rate and attaining anything for it is a bit difficult without a support contract.

That said, there are some interesting home lab scenarios you could use the shelf for with some elbow grease and effort.

Hello,

To be realistic, I have already worked on more recent versions. But it is the only interesting material that we have to offer a solution to the students of the school.

To make a summary, we have recovered several dozen blades as well as their infra. And we want to offer students an infrastructure allowing virtualization during lessons.

The problem is storage for 2000 students and 400 teachers.

So we released this netapp which was given to us about 2 years ago and we would like to be able to manage it.

The problem is not the license, but just the access to the software and the documentation for the ontap 8.1 to install on it.

Initially we wanted to see if we could upgrade it to at least ontap 8.3 but unfortunately with the change in license key format, we are not able to do so.

Thanks in advance for your answer

The certificate in 8.1.4P8 is expired. At a minimum, you would need 8.1.4P10 to be functional. The FAS2220 supports up to ONTAP 9.1. But as you said, you cannot access anything without a valid support contract. The FAS2220 reached End of Support on March 30, 2021.

Hello,

If I contact support via the site, do I still have a way to regain access to the resource? to be able to try at least the update as much as possible before switching to the new license format?

As well as the software allowing to manage it?

Because it would bother me to throw away all this material, especially since it's the only thing allowing us to have enough efficient storage for our project.

And it is especially that in time that school we do not have the budget to invest in a newer or recent equivalent allowing to do the same thing

Thanks in advance
Thibaut

I don’t think support would do much and there is no way to reinstate support. You try can contact the company that donated it to see if they still have 8.1.4p10 or later already downloaded.

Also to note. You can manage via ssh using the cli. The gui for that system was very minimal anyway.

Hello,

I'll try, but since we've been in possession of the equipment for 2 years and the person who received it has left, I'll try to see if I can get his contact in the company that made the donation. .

To tell the truth, if there is no ui but I still manage to do something with it, that would be nice 🙂

But for now I'm pretty stuck on understanding how to manage partitions and volumes. Having done it at the time on the web UI, while the command line, it is less simple 🙂

From then the documentation is more complicated because it is still on the old netapp site/docs

No need to worry about partitions if you're on ONTAP 8.1.x. Partitioning wasn't introduced until ONTAP 8.3 and later.

Hello, I come to see you after trying to recover the account where the NetApp was registered.

Unfortunately the person who owned the account left the company that gave it to us more than 2 years ago.

However I managed to recover all the license associated with the material. Which he luckily had a picture of in their internal documentation

Unfortunately, there is no longer the OnCommand System Manager installer.

Do you have an idea of how I could recover it to be able to manage my equipment?

Thanks in advance
Thibaut
