Hi everyone. We have received ActiveIQ recommendation to upgrade disk firmware (Disk firmware is not on the latest revision). I am reading through documentation and I can see that there is also mentioned DQP (Disk Qualification Package), however it is not clear if I have to it before or after drive update. The current DQP is quite old, however in ActiveIQ we do not see any recommendation to update it:

DQP can be done anytime, it only affects scenario's where you are swapping in or adding newer model disks. DQP basically helps ONTAP know the various model disks we have and details about them.

Can we somehow determine what firmware version is included in the specific ONTAP image ? I am asking because maybe I would update already ontap image with included new drive fw

Yup sure can, on the ActiveIQ Digital Advisor site there is an area called "System Firmware". Link is accessible via the Quick Links menu button on the top right. Direct link is - https://activeiq.netapp.com/system-firmware/major - from there you can choose the major or minor patch release and see what versions include what firmware updates.

You should not assume disk firmware is included in an ontap image.
Always upload the newest one from the support website
I've seen too many people get in trouble that way

Better yet, if you're able to enable the automatic firmware update feature (added since ONTAP 9.10.1) and stop having to worry about it 😄
