When searching for the redhat iso I saw that I need to send billing information. Are you sure blueXP doesn't have repos for another linux distribution? Has anyone installed blueXP on ubuntu?
Another thing
The download link at netapp support website of "download cloud manager connector online/offline" gave me a file without extension, is that right?

The checksum files support this being correct and older versions are the same way.

that was another thing that happened to me too and i thought it was weird. I thought that within linux maybe this understands it. I didn't give much importance

File "extensions" in Linux don't really mean anything. Extensions may be used as defaults in some apps but many apps won't care. You can name your shell script foo.jpg and it will run the same as foo.sh or foo.bash (but future developers looking at your script may hunt you down and cause you harm :)).

According to this dock, RHEL 7.9 is the latest supported. This is EOL and now EOSL in June of 2024. We are unable to deploy any new instances of RHEL7. I tried to install this on RHEL8, it initially installed and worked until I rebooted. Then it doesn't bring up the web server. I just get a generic "Failed to initialize UI". Can anyone confirm if the connector can actually run on RHEL8?

I had it running on RHEL 8.4 (RHEL 8.6 was supported but we weren't ready to deploy 8.6 internally) but the product kinda sucked when I did the original work so I shut it all down. I updated our original doc page with this:
Update as of 30 Jun 2023
Ubuntu 22.04 is the new operating system for the Connector when you deploy a Connector from BlueXP or from your cloud provider’s marketplace.

You also have the option to manually install the Connector on your own Linux host that’s running Ubuntu 22.04.

Red Hat Enterprise Linux 8.6 and 8.7 are no longer supported with new Connector deployments.

These versions are not supported with new deployments because Red Hat no longer supports Docker, which is required for the Connector. If you have an existing Connector running on RHEL 8.6 or 8.7, NetApp will continue to support your configuration.

Thanks for the info Ed. We are unable to deploy Ubuntu or Rhel7, so we are are sort of SOL then? Perhaps Netapp needs to provide an OVA instead?

When a vendor says that the latest RHEL support they can offer is RHEL7, they've essentially told you that they don't support RHEL. ESPECIALLY in the Enteprrise, and that's the only place a local connector should be.

If you're not already active in the cloud, give up on BlueXP. It's simply not worth it and the hype on NetApp supporting on-premise only with BlueXP was just that - hype.

Ed, there are certain tools that are not available unless you run via BlueXP, also the Netapp Select instances no longer deploy from a deploy server and you need BlueXP. I understand the reasons why they don't support RHEL8, but that's no excuse for not deploying an OVA with ubuntu, or better rockyLinux. I no longer want to support VMs for vendor tools. The vendors need to solve those issues.

I think RHEL9 will be supported some time early next year.

Unfortunately, our eval of the product is now back-burnered and I will have to look for alternative solutions. 😦

Why don't y'all just use Ubuntu?

    Ubuntu 22.04 LTS

I mean Ubuntu LTS will have 10 years of support...

For RHEL-only enterprises - and there are many - deploying another OS means a lot of qualification/integration efforts including things like automated deployment, patch management, etc. It's non-trivial and way beyond just a "load up an ISO and away we go". Many tools built for RHEL will need to be rebuilt and therefore retested.

I just found out it's because of Docker support in newer RHEL versions.

We have the same issue. Because of compliance reasons we cannt use RHEL 7 anymore and Ubuntu is not a qualified in our company, same topics like @drifting sequoia we could try to port it to podman but this is definitely not supported

Ok the product team has been aware of this for a while now and is working on this. I cannot comment specifics, but something will be out. The account team can ask for specifics or your cloud advisor teams.
