I don’t know why A250 shelf ID is hardcoded. We have concepts and it helps to have unique shelf IDs in your datacenter.
Additional you should add some tool to set the shelf IDs or bring back the button from
SAS shelves. Setting shelf IDs at NS shelves isn’t an improvement at all

Hi there.... I have not yet had the pleasure of an A250 shelf, but I seem to recall that you should be able to set your shelf ID from ONTAP (maybe, the node shell) but I cannot recall where I saw it... only thing that bugs me is the fact you need to re-power the shelf in order for it to set the new ID...

Yes, you can set it via nodeshell. I can look it up. You can also do it from maintenance mode I think. But not sure how "supported" this is. And since you need to re-power it, I've never really used it.

You can't do it for the A250 though, that needs to stay at 00. No idea why...

Check these cmds:

cl2n1*> sasadmin expander_cli 0a.0 "help set_encl_id"
Command to change the enclosure ID
Usage: set_encl_id [ID]
Where ID is a value between 1 and 99

cl2n1*> sasadmin expander_cli 0a.0 "set_encl_id"
Current Enclosure ID: 0

cl2n1*> sasadmin expander_cli 0a.0 "set_encl_id 10"

*********************************************************
ENCLOSURE ID SET TO '10', PLEASE POWER-CYCLE THE ENCLOSURE
TO ALLOW THE NEW ID TO TAKE EFFECT.
*********************************************************

cl2n1*> sasadmin expander_cli 0a.0 "set_encl_id 0"
Original enclosure ID restored, power-cycle request cancelled.

The following is for maintenance-mode I think, it will simply set the IDs automatically for all connected shelves:
sasadmin expander_set_shelf_id -a
