From what I understand gold is the rarest ore in the game and spawns randomly in caves with a higher chance in some biomes. We have a Material Catalogue that goes over where to find them in one of the tabs. If you give me 20 minutes or so I should be back at my computer and can get you that link if no one else gets to it first. That and the wiki are both very helpful, imo.
