For multiplayer, you can use the host/join mechanics where one person is the host and everyone connects to that host. The host will need to open ports in their router and set up port forwarding. How to do this is highly dependent on your individual router model and ISP, and is not something that we can walk you through very easily - but check your router configuration page for options like 'NAT/Gaming' 'Port Forwarding' or 'External Connections'. The host's public IP will be required by everyone connecting.
You can find your public IP by visiting a site such as whatismyip.com
If everyone connecting to you is within your home network (that is, living in the same house as you), you can use your private IP instead, no port forwarding required - like LAN parties of old. See Host/Join Mode for more information on host/join mode.
You can also download the dedicated server architecture from steam for free (even if you bought the game on epic) and set that up. Everyone will then join the IP of that sever - you'll also need the public IP & port forwarding setup for that. Setup FAQs can be found: Dedicated Server FAQ
Alternatively, you can rent a server from GPortal. No setup required on your end, just use the IP and port that GPortal gives you. This is the only option that costs money.
if you need more information than what you were provided in the general chat, we need to know more about what you've done, what mode you're trying, what errors you're having....
etc.
also - spamming multiple places doesn't help.
hi i cant get to my router admin page to do the port forwarding
I would need a lot more information about what that means - are you just not finding the option? is it not sticking? are you getting an error?
in the guide it says i have to go to my router admin page and connect my pc to my router with port forwarding and i dont know how to do that
unfortunately, every router is different. There's some good generic information (including an internet guide on how to forward ports in almost any router) located in https://discord.com/channels/854679517997695016/1423434949272408255
if that doesn't work, you may need to contact your ISP for instructions.
alternatively, if you still can't get it to work, and/or your isp isn't helpful and/or you just want something simpler, you could look into a third party tool such as radmin, zerotier, or hamachi.
There's a good step by step walkthrough on radmin on reddit: https://www.reddit.com/r/nightingale/comments/1nzsjjg/easy_way_to_play_with_friends_via_epic_games_no/
y is it this complicated to do multiplayer if your not on steam
like this is way to much to play multiplayer i think
the IP/LAN system is a common way of making multiplayer games work. Epic has a penchant for not allowing developers to tie into their network systems, so this is what the options are.
I'm sorry you're having trouble with it.
would it make it easier to import to steam or will it still be the same
With steam you can piggy back on their networking architecture and use the steam friends invite system - provided your group is all on steam.
You'll have to move some files around to play on the same character or start over
thats what happened when i imported it to steam
