Sadly, outside of resetting the realm, there's not much to be done.
However, if you're online and trust someone you could ask them to open or reset a realm and do that building there and then resume in your own world.

It hasn't been fully tested to give me actual feedback on it, but you might be able to open a crude portal, to the same realm, but at a different difficulty, and see if it spins up a new realm (so if you're on explorer, set it to balanced before you open the portal in the bottom left)

Opening the same realm on a lower/higher difficulty just changes the difficulty unfortunately. I'll try loading into a friends realm.
Actually it does nothing, just a loading screen and then back to the same realm on the same difficulty.

Weirdly enough, the quest step auto completed once I loaded back into my own realm. thank you so much for your help though. That would have sucked having to reset the realm after making such an involed base.
