My companion doesn't work, doesn't collect (he watches only) any resources (except wood).

I've set up the behaviors well, and the chests too.

Do you have the same problem like me ? How do you solve this problem ?

What does he have equipped?

"Jobs" if you want to call them that are based on the tool in hand, and the settings.

Equip a pickaxe - they'll mine.
Equip a wood axe - they'll chop wood.
Give them a gun/slingbow - they'll shoot.

You do have to be in an area with the resource though.
If you're at home with no rocks around they will not wander away from you to go harvest/mine

Thanks a lot, I hadn't understood that the character had to be in the zone, I thought he was going alone. @quartz flame Indeed there was nothing around my house lol

#

However, how does the chest functionality work for characters: construction ...

#

Do I have to equip the character to perform a task, or does he equip himself?

If you choose to allow recruits to the chest they will deposit what's in it that matches and take from them to refuel fires (tbh keep them away from your wood chest, they will burn the good stuff first).

So if you have a chest with their access, that contains hide for example.
They will put what hides they have that match.

So if its an empty chest they will not add to it.

Think of them like a glorified "equivalent" function.

If they have tier 3 hide on them, but none of your chests have tier 3 hide in them, it will stay in their inventory until a chest has the tier 3 hide in it.

Oh okay I understand thanks a lot ;))))

#

But why crafting option construction option ... for access ?

Crafting option is for you to craft from the chests instead of carrying materials. The range is about 8 foundations in a bubble. So if you make a "basement" for storage it will be able to reach on the main floor.

Building allows you to put building materials in and build from that chest. This is about 3-5 foundations. If it doesnt reach you can use x+r to move the chest around the build but that shouldn't be a problem, just a rare report

#

It's not part of the recruit settings for chests, though you can also set a recruit to help you build if they have materials in their inventory

Oh, lots of interesting things. Thank you very much, because none of this is mentioned in the game's tutorial 🙂

#

I'll be able to play a lot better now - many thanks 🙂

# rich quest What about an AxePick ?

I've heard it takes some messing with their settings, but you could solve the need for two items for sure.

For example:
If you want them to mine - disable harvesting.
If you want them to chop trees - disable mining.

Imo, it's the same amount of clicks. But up to the user.
Open inventory - equip other weapon
Or
Open behavior and enable/disable the one you want/don't want them to do.

I haven't fully tested myself, but it was brought up in chat the other day

I dont bother getting Mabel to work, she was useless at it anyway. She is my personal packmule and health tonic 😂 I gave her a very nice axe and she bashes in the heads of all the bound and picks me up when I fall. Cant really complain about that lol

My John is an eager hunter, he knows exactly where the mobs are and invariably gets himself killed it he gets there before me! Gathering though, he is useless, he has his own box to put stuff in, he's barred from using the rest of my boxes, he's far too gung ho about things!

Yes, I have placed one box with survivor setting ON. and she empties all of her inventory other than equiped items, into the box.

mostly because it saves me chasing her around whilst she insists on running from me as soon as we get home lol

In the opposite direction, if you only want your survivor to fight/heal and be your pack mule, give them a 1H weapon and a torch or lantern. This will make their #2 priority be following you around to give you light, which prevents them from trying to be "helpful" by putting your T4 wood in the fireplace.
