#Steam/PC Users unable to Launch/start Nightingale "sys does not support Dx12" Bug

fresh install, ticket sent, updated drivers, checked system cache, tried -dx11 via steam, refreshed, flash, and reformat'd system, went through checking compatibility issues that may be present, uninstalled/reinstalled dx 12, gpu, cpu, and drivers, and ran a bench check to be certain of any internal issues, flashed unreal engine cache and checked hardware for any damage.

still no luck.

Two questions:

  1. What are you system specs? As in video card (Very curious if it's AMD)
  2. What windows version are you using? (Some windows versions have compatibility issues with Dx12)

here's the simple parts, but to give more advanced information, i'd have to specify that yes, it's a fully isolated VM, and as a specialist, i can be 100% certain that as far as the game, or devs would see from trying to read what/whom i am, it'd be a windows 10, and running in top condition.

#

but to cut this all into readable parts..

windows 10, home edition 22H2
AMD Ryzen 5 3600 6-Core Processor
(customized rig to twin 6 cores, working total is 12 core with half being ghost cores for stability with larger workloads, not that it really matters)

32.0 GB RAM
3 SSD's
game is installed on the 1 tera drive,

Hmm...

So I personally ran into this issue with another UE5 game, and it ended up being because of this:
"Only Windows 10 v1909 builds ending .1350, v2004 and v20H2 ending builds .789 or newer (including Windows 11) are supported by the features UE5 uses"
^ Result when I was trying to find the problem.

My windows 10 version wasn't one of the ones listed, and I had to mess around with it for a hot minute.

That's the reason I was curious

#

Now, that game and Nightingale were different, at the core, that game used something on top of the UE5 to cause the disconnect, but I was thinking it might be related to your issue here.

oak night
#

yeah, but that would have been solved when i wiped the cache and reinstalled UE5

#

as i uninstalled the whole SSD before wiping cache on both seperately

#

so.. i wager if that was the case, that should have solved it

#

dk..

#

i know that i shouldn't pry into the files too much, as if they decided to sue me, they could potentially use that as a point in any case

signal hawk
#

Gotcha! I'm also unsure on that front, as much as I know, for IT stuff, it's still very little.
Well hmmm, I had seen Dx12 stuff reported, let me see if I can do some digging specifically for Nightingale. (maybe someone has a fix, I know AMD cards seem the pose the biggest issue when it comes to the game for some reason)

#

TBH, I know it's a nono to try and get into the files to fix things, but sometimes it might just be a necessary evil.
I think they just don't want people breaking things as it's not set up to handle that in most cases.

#

i'm technically on a windows 10, so thats fine.

#

yeah, i have all these measures solved.

#

*shrug

#

i'll try messing with my base system rq

#

seeing if i can make a ghost drive then flash ruin nightingale..

#

then repair and export it back

signal hawk
#

When you get a sec, which video card again?
I don't see it posted yet.

#

If you want to make sure to save privacy information, you could always just Task Manager and tab over to GPU and SS that little bit.

oak night
#

its a dx12 far as i can see

#

and everythings up to date..

#

so..

#

here, i'll show you the ghost machine i'm using atm

oak night
signal hawk
#

Hmmmm

oak night
#

i'mma try something on the main system, (which i cant show you for legal reasons..)

#

mostly client data

signal hawk
#

That's fine, only share what you're comfortable with ❤️

oak night
#

no, its more, i have NDA's with some folks, and forgot to send them their packets this morning, so i have to wait.. but they're setting in the task bar atm.

#

as i cant just "save" the dumb packet, as it may cause bugs when implemented

#

boring stuff..

signal hawk
#

I know it's been mentioned, and sorry for rehashing, but it really sounds like it's a windows 10 compatibility issue here.

Do you know how to find the full build information to post?
Windows 10 being an issue with Dx12 has been going on for a long time, and with everything else looking fine, I'm very much leaning to that.
Aside from wondering if a ghost PC could effect it in this case.

oak night
#

thats why i'm using the main system to unattach and re attach the updates

#

like, here

signal hawk
#

Ahh gotcha, apologies I shall wait ❤️

oak night
#

i literally just went into the vm's files, and deleted the version of amd it's using, sop now it's going to re-install

#

and actlike a usual machine does when the system suddenly forgets amd exists..

#

feel free to put a timer on, it'll take around 20 minutes cause windows its self is fatty bloatware

signal hawk
#

You're fine, I'm just updating the Essence Traders catalogue in the mean time. :3

oak night
#

I love force crashing a vm to fix it..

#

Literally may have to pull out the diode and check it again..

#

So, I've torn up nightingale,

#

And repaired it

#

new response

#

progress

#

cut and patched old effects data..

signal hawk
#

Since it's reading the dx11, I'm assuming you enabled the "true" value >_> In a certain place?

#

😛

oak night
#

nope,

#

but i achieved a startup

signal hawk
#

Ahhhhh gotcha

oak night
#

i just jimmied the effects data from the older version

#

we have a launch

signal hawk
#

Ayyyyyy!
Let's keep an eye on it I suppose

#

LOL i see

oak night
#

and i said "screw eula"

#

"i wanna play"

#

and i kid you not.

#

It was the fire effect

#

Thats it

#

fixed again..

signal hawk
#

Sometimes, as much as it's not recommended, I know sometimes, so long as someone knows what they're doing, it's necessary...

It sucks that it's like that, it really is, but I don't think the devs would punish you for trying to get the game to work with you.

In case future changes happen though, I'd keep an eye on that dx12 issue, since it's a real bugger.
It causes so many problems for people (like me) who don't want windows 11.

#

Rip, there she is....

#

Le sigh

oak night
#

windows 11 isn't safe. anyone with a degree in computer science is well aware

#

plus, it's a bad system.

signal hawk
#

Mhm, it's why I refuse to upgrade, and why I basically bricked my PC ATM to not ask me to upgrade

#

My husbands PC auto-updated one day at work and it forced him into win11, I panicked it'd happen to me

#

That was a fun day of him backlogging his PC to a windows 10 version to get rid of it 😅

oak night
#

oh no, i'm far more evil man, i literally ripped a save of windows 10, just to talk smack to windows

signal hawk
#

Question, if it DOES end up being the core problem, of the windows 10 version not being the "on the list" kind, could you flash it to be the correct build number?

oak night
#

I was prompty banned from windows support when i literally read the system shared information from a windows 11 and started explaining why it was a bad design, and a security flaw

signal hawk
#

Because how dare you not want that thing on your PC. SMH

oak night
#

it'll work

#

all i need is the data for the version, as windows does check if its missing things if you have a internet connection

#

and will ramp its preformace untill you update,

#

been there since windows 8

signal hawk
#

could this specific version be found? It seems to have the least amount of issues
Win 10 version 22H2(OS19045,4046)

oak night
#

You'd need to just get a house version and update it to that, then store the copy..

#

Easy.

signal hawk
#

I mean for you and your system just as a test

oak night
#

It'd be as simple as pouring water..

signal hawk
#

If it ends up working, you might not need to fiddle with much outside of well... doing all that haha

oak night
#

And I am on that version already

signal hawk
#

Oh well shoot

oak night
#

I think I've solved the issue.

#

Fire effect, lighting on menu for character select.

#

It had doubles..

#

so, heres my solved system.

#

and all it took: check for duplicates

#

then crash game,

#

reboot amd manually

#

the hardware

#

erase amd data

#

prep it for uninstall

#

then reinstall and reinstall drivers/system

#

check cache for old info

#

dump shaders

#

uninstall nightengale BEFORE

#

then reinstall nightengale after you fixed everything..

signal hawk
#

That's still alot, but at least you were able to figure it out! Keep an eye though just in case ya know?

#

There's a big patch coming next week....

oak night
#

thats why i'm putting these steps here

#

and may leave the post up to post updates if the problem continues

#

for others

#

even though the process is pure sadism atm

signal hawk
#

Perfect! Just in case, I'm going to pin the SS of it working, so IF others can follow the same steps, they can find it easily (or you if it gets lost in posts)

signal hawk
oak night
#

regardless, i want to dye my clothes

#

i hate looking like im wearing a bag

signal hawk
#

IIRC they said they're working on ways to make it more fluid, so it's not just randomly splattered on clothes as well. I'd have to look up the Q&A recently hosted though to verify

oak night
#

i cen tell you for certain, that the way they could implement it, if it was a little box while making it, would be a series of 5 lines added on to apply it locally, then a save setting to server for global.

#

thats including the line to use an item to apply dye

#

but that would be for a index
