#Unable to extend my estate since last update

Hey. Seen a few "can't build" posts and to be honest this is another one of those, sorry, but I've followed steps I've seen in those other posts and it's not helped me at all - just trying to work out if I'm doing something wrong or if this is a legitimate bug, in which case I'll raise it.

I've built a nice little raised tudor estate with a basement, today was my first time back to the game since 0.2 update and whilst mucking about I lost a bunch of foundations in a bound attack that I didn't notice and now I cannot rebuild them.

I then noticed I couldn't extend my estate at all, so I cannot attach another foundation to any foundations in any direction, apart from on top of a previous foundation, interestingly it doesn't matter if there is something on that foundation; I can build and it will just clip through the block.

  1. I've checked build limit and as I understand it I'm within limits - see attached image, should hopefully be the first one.
  2. Next screenshot shows that I can't attach, it's like that all the way around my estate, even where the foundations are at ground level
  3. Next two show that I'm able to build on top of existing foundations even though they'd clip objects. I have placed them out of curiosity and then my companion has built them whilst I was looking around 😄
  4. Interestingly, I can't build anywhere at ground level, if I push a foundation onto some scenery like a rock so it raises out of the ground, it immediately goes green and I can place it.
  5. I checked the estate cairn and it's still mine.

So yeah, I'm a little stumped. I'm hoping I'm just doing something daft and there's a workaround. Worst case I'll just rebuild, could be a reason to relocate to a friends respite realm 🙂

Not saying this is the case, and I'd raise a ticket with them just in case, but I have seen reports that after the patch clipping for grounds seems to have been turned off. I can't tell if there's an incline where you're placing, or a rock, or sticks or something like that, but it might be the case here?

To expand on what I mean:
Someone in a bug report listed that they couldn't build over an "ugly rock" they wanted to hide, but could do so before the patch.
Leading me to believe that maybe clipping isn't the right word, but the collision factor is skewed?

Another report mentioned that up a slight hill, where the corner would previously just have been under ground, also was not able to be placed.

I mention this because sort of from what I can see, looks like there's an incline or something.

Questions to test:

  1. Does relogging help?
  2. Does changing your position help?
  3. Can you rotate/increase/decrease height?
  4. I think you mentioned it, but just for clarity, you tried every placement around this base yes?

A few days ago, after the 2.0 update, I was rerolling Abeyance realms to find something cool to build at. I found this neat waterfall that I wanted to build a bridge over, but I couldn't get some of the platforms to "clip" through the floor. I spent a couple hours trying to work around this assuming that this was intended, and I was able to sometimes find my way around by going to lower layers and extending it to where I wanted to build (even that didn't work all the time).
After a while I was able to build the bridge 🙂 and then the clipping thing happened again when trying to level out the ground (it wouldn't let me place a platform that was half shown and half in the ground), so I gave up and rerolled again 😆

I know the questions weren't towards me, but:

  1. Nope, it only helps with the ghost shadows that are sometimes left over (different issue but wasn't too impactful for me)
  2. If it's the initial platform, then the very slight adjustments may help, but most times its not where you wanted to place it. If it doesn't let you add onto an already existing platform, you either have to restart the build or give up 😢
  3. If it shows that you can't place it (red), you can't adjust the height. But I was able to work around this by going to a different area, adjusting the height of the platform I wanted to place, and going back to the original area (doesn't work all the time, and it's only if the platform isn't attaching to other platforms).
  4. Doesn't pertain to me BUT it's random; I'm sure if you go into a realm and try placing around rocks you'll find that you can't place platforms the same way you used to.

Intended or not, I do miss clipping through the floor - it allowed for more creativity and consistency, but now I'm restricted as to what I can do unless I spend a couple hours trying to loophole the system.

Hope this helped! 😁

Hey bud, thanks for the response - any help is appreciated. With the shot where I can't place, the land is relatively flat (I'm not going to say completely flat because for all I know there might be the slightest of inclines if you look at it closely) and there's no debris around - I actually had a 2x3 set of foundations there till they got destroyed by a nighttime Bound spawn which was how I found the issue. I went around vacuuming up all the debris too in order to start clean. But if you're saying uneven land could be a cause due to recent changes, I'd buy in to that as it's like that around the entire estate; I literally cannot build outwards anymore, only up 😄 I even deleted other foundations and couldn't re-place some of them.

Just to respond to your questions:

  1. No, gone in and out a few times, tried hopping to the watch and back as well, no joy.
2 and 3) No, sat there mashing the rotate and height adjustment controls and it's still red.
  2. Yeah, so I cannot build outwards horizontally anymore, just vertically, if I remove a foundation that's on ground level I can't build it again.

Based on what you and @calm herald said it does sound like I might be hitting some sort of bug, but I'll leave this open a bit longer in case someone else has encountered it and got a workaround, if not I'll go hit the bug section, but thanks for your help so far.
