#Axepick won't break a breakable stone ceiling?

I can break the stone breakable walls in a dungeon, but not the ceilings. With the mining pick, I just stand on or near it and look down and swing. That doesn't work for the axepick (yes, I am using the right mouse button).

the workaround is jumping while trying to hit the floor. going 1st person helps as well
