I recommend using reference lines (I know thats not what they are called but I forgot the actual name). I think something like this could work.

Basically just draw simple lines or shapes to help you with the proprtions

When you are sketching its easier to draw a few lines instead of trying to start drawing the whole thing with every little detail

Mmmmh.. Could try? I prefer using reference with the right angle. I usually start with just circle for head, lines for eyes, draw an outline of a face and then add details. Works fine for me usually.

Yeah I get what you mean. Using references is great but sometimes (like in this case) you cant find the perfect reference and you will need reference lines to help you draw something in the pose/angle you want. So you should definitely get used to using this technique.

Heres a quick example. I know it looks terrible but I drew it on my phone in like 5 minutes but it will do. If you find it hard to draw something in a specific angle then either draw a box or a sphere to help you with the perspective. Drawing three dimensional boxes is not hard but it can help a lot. You see the crest is almost parallel with the top of the box and the face is parallel with the side. (Drew some red lines there to make it more noticable). This makes it a lot easier to draw things without some details looking off imo.

When I draw something often, like humans I then just draw from memory. Most artists would eat me for that but seriously, the woman next to death? - I drew it from memory, body wise. I use refs when I don't draw certain things often. refs are nice but why the hell would you use it constantly if you knew how to draw things already.

I got used to drawing with graphics tablet and monitor - so I've got a desktop PC with a beefy processor, an acer monitor and a Huion tablet that pretty much does everything a Wacom Intuos can do - for about 1/3rd of the price

and I almost exclusively use open-source programms

The right program can make a humongous difference - just like quality supplies and techniques that suit you can help you create better art IRL.

to me, it all looks good... but i'm still a learning artist so,,

the way you move your arm when drawing is really, really important. It's best to draw from the shoulder, not the wrist (that will just cause major ouch in the long term)

drawing in big, fluid movements will also make it easier for you to be more precise and help make things go where they're supposed to. It just takes some getting used to - warm-ups are really helpful there.

free-hand circles and spirals are good stuff

just to get the movements down

squiggle lines, triangles, straight lines, increasing curves, all that helps

you'll see ^^

deviantart always offers contest templates in multiple file formats

so everyone can pick something that works for them

pretty much all open source programs use ora - it's a pretty well known format

(one which PS can also handle)

I think there's a way to take a bunch of individual PNGs and bind them together as layers - they're multiple files, but your program automatically recognises them as belonging to the same thing

@terse anvil I have yet to draw this but a long time before the main story begins a huge spaceship crashed in the desert. Its engine remained intact and on, heating the desert and creating molten glass around it, while metal fragments from the ship absorb and radiate the heat, making the desert much hotter then it would be normally.
