@blazing kelp Intuos is Wacom's more high quality lower-end commercial model. The beginner model would be the bamboo. Honestly, if you are serious about drawing digital art I would go ahead and save up the like 2K for a cintiq. It's worth it. That beinf said, I have an Intuos 3 and I've never had any problems with it.
Blarg. I just looked up a new cintiq. They want $3000 for their newest model. I'd look on ebay for an older model.
Oh hey. Their 13" HD model is only just slightly over 1k.
I must have been looking at the 30" model or something.
As far as tablet input goes and controlling your cursor, the surface of the tablet tends to be absolute in terms of bound on your screen, so you really get a good feel of where your cursor is going to be before you even hover close enough for your cursor to move.

Well, I picked up my intuos several years off of ebay for about $200.
I would look around, I think they're on intuos 5 now. I would look for a 4 or a 3.
I've had mine several years and it's pretty nice. Never had any problems with it.
Otherwise, if you want a 7" bamboo, I think a new one runs about $120.
