as title says, no way i'm going to keep playing it if it happens again cause I just got this new PC i don't want to damage it with shit like this. I have no clue what caused this, tried: closing normally, alt+f4, task manager force shut down. I even closed steam which gave me the message that it was waiting for supervive to shut down. Supervive did NOT shut down when steam did.
#Your game froze on launch for no reason and now refuses to close even when using task manager

when stopping the 1st one manually i got this
operation could not finish, refused acces

second one could be stopped but that chnaged nothing

💀

xd okay i'm checking, I've never worked with amd drivers though where can I find the updates? the amd installmanager says this so it kinda looks like i'm already up to date
oh yeah u are
I went to the website
but I think that's what u have. I didn't. now I do. now the game works 💪🏼 👷♀️
uhhhh okay .. let's hope that's not it. I'm trying your way just in case. I'll try to reboot and hope it goes away, if it does tho i'll assume it's somethink unknown that causes this and not drivers
Ok so. that issue had my whole pc on holdup and i couldnt even run the amd drivers thing it was legit stuck on loading for minytes on end. Then I tried restarting and it was stuck on restart, so I had to force restart 💀 I would check opening the game again without updating drivers to make troubleshooting easier but I don't really want to risk damaging it so i'm updating, it does look like there was a recent update I missed. I'll report back once it's done
game now launches fine! thanks @empty sluice for the tip, it is either indeed drivers related or something else that was fixed on reboot, next time this happens to someone drivers should be the first way to try to fix the issue
YAY
Sorry I missed this thread,
My suspicion of what was going on is that at game launch, Unreal Engine queues up a ton of Shader Precache tasks for the GPU driver to process (This is all to reduce in game hitching and stuttering) but I believe this process can sometimes choke if there are issues or bugs with the GPU driver (usually older drivers) or some incompatibility with local caches.
Updating to latest drivers most likely invalidates any local caches and deliver a more stable path to precache this content early on.
At times, manual deletion of caches needs to be done

if all fails (which we hope it does not come to this), it's running the game using DirectX11. However, DX11 is more taxing on the CPU as the driver layer has a ton more overhead than DX12, but it provides better compatibility at the cost of performance.
Thank you @valid mulch for the update and thank you @empty sluice for helping out!
Sometimes the Fortnite client will try to repeatedly recompile DirectX shaders without stopping, which results in heavy stuttering while pla
Ah thanks a lot for the response nonetheless!
