Can I have a custom background color for each pane ?

Hi @ebon bramble. I'm kapa.ai, your friendly support bot. I will try to answer your question by searching through the knowledge base.

Currently, Warp does not support setting a custom background color for each individual pane. The most relevant feature available is the ability to set a color for each tab using Launch Configurations, but this only changes the tab color (not the pane background) and uses the ANSI color palette derived from your theme. There is no built-in way to set a unique background color or theme per pane at this time.

This limitation is a common feature request, and there is an open issue tracking the ability to set different theme/background color selections per window, tab, or pane. Many users have expressed the need for this feature, especially for distinguishing between different environments or SSH sessions. However, as of now, the only workaround is to use tab colors, which are more subtle and do not affect the entire pane background. The Warp team has acknowledged this feedback, but there is no indication in the knowledge sources that per-pane background theming is currently possible or has been implemented yet. You can follow the progress or add your support to the feature request here: Allow for different theme/background color selections per window/tab/pane
