#Visual separation between panes

Hi @spice dawn. I'm kapa.ai, your friendly support bot. I will try to answer your question by searching through the knowledge base.
Currently, the best built-in way to increase visual separation between panes in Warp is to enable the "Dim inactive panes" feature. You can do this by going to Settings > Appearance > Panes and toggling on "Dim inactive panes." This will make inactive panes less prominent, helping the active pane stand out more. However, as you noted, some users find this and the small triangle indicator insufficient, especially on large screens or with certain themes Pane Dimming & Focus.
As for customizing the color or width of the pane separators (the dividers between panes), this is a frequently requested feature but is not currently available in Warp. There are open feature requests to allow users to set custom colors and widths for pane dividers, as well as to make them more visually distinct. The Warp team is aware of this feedback, and you can follow or upvote these requests to show your interest:
- Make dividers between panes more visually distinct
- Ability to customize pane divider / border width
- Make it possible to customize border of terminal window/between blocks
For now, aside from dimming inactive panes, there is no built-in way to change the color of the pane separator or the area where the folder name appears. The Warp team has acknowledged these requests, so improvements may come in the future. If this feature is important to you, consider adding your feedback or upvoting the relevant GitHub issues to help prioritize it.
Note: you can ask me a follow up question by @ mentioning me again :speech_balloon:
