#Error while creating a team

My team members were using Warp in personal capacity and now we want it for our entire dev team. So I sent the invite to my team members for the same email address they were using Warp on. But, now it is showing an error since they are admins of their own team and hence unable to leave their team and join a common team.
How do I fix this ?

Hi @cyan field. I'm kapa.ai, your friendly support bot. I will try to answer your question by searching through the knowledge base.

Based on the knowledge sources, each Warp user can only be an admin or member of one team at a time. If your team members are currently admins of their own teams, they cannot join another team until they leave or delete their existing team.

To resolve this:

  1. Delete their current team: Each team admin must delete their own team before joining the new common team. To do this, the admin should remove all team members first, then delete the team. This can be done via Settings > Teams. Note that only the admin can delete a team, and there can only be one admin per team. If they want to keep any data, they should back it up before deletion.
  2. Join the new team: Once their previous team is deleted, they can accept your invite and join the new team using the same email address.

It’s not possible to simply leave a team if you are the only admin; you must delete the team or transfer admin rights to another member before leaving. If you need to transfer admin rights, go to Settings > Teams > Transfer admin and select another member to become the new admin. Only after transferring admin rights can you leave the team yourself Teams documentation.

If you encounter any issues during this process, please ensure you are following the correct steps as outlined above. If problems persist, you may need to contact Warp support for further assistance.

Let me know if you need more detailed steps for deleting a team or transferring admin rights.

Let me check the knowledge base for you again. One moment! :books:

I'm sorry, but the knowledge sources do not explicitly state whether chat and conversation history is preserved or lost when a user leaves or deletes a team and joins a new one. However, there are multiple open feature requests from users asking for the ability to save or retain AI conversation history, indicating that persistent chat history may not currently be supported and that conversations could be lost if the session or context is changed (such as by leaving a team or deleting an account) conversation history request conversation history feature request.

If retaining chat history is important for your team, I recommend exporting any important conversations manually before making changes to team membership, or reaching out to Warp support for the most up-to-date guidance.

to leave the team the member has to cancel the subscription but even after cancelling the subscription the member is unable to leave the team and join a new team

@bitter edge to leave the team the member has to cancel the subscription but even after cancelling the subscription the member is unable to leave the team and join a new team

Let me check the knowledge base for you again. One moment! :books:

Based on the knowledge sources, canceling a Pro subscription does not automatically remove a user from their team. Canceling the subscription simply ends the paid plan at the end of the billing cycle, but the team structure remains in place, and the user is still considered a member or admin of that team How do I cancel my subscription? What happens when I cancel during a billing cycle?.

To leave a team and join a new one, the following must be done:

  • If the user is a team admin: They must either transfer admin rights to another member (Settings > Teams > Transfer admin) or, if they are the only member, delete the team entirely. Only after transferring admin or deleting the team can they leave and join a new team Teams documentation.
  • If the user is not an admin: They can leave the team from Settings > Teams.

If you have already canceled your subscription but are still unable to leave the team, make sure you have completed the necessary steps above. If the issue persists, it may be a technical problem, and you should contact Warp support at [email protected] for further assistance I have a question and need help. How can I reach a human at Warp?.

Summary:
Canceling a subscription alone does not let you leave a team. Admins must transfer admin rights or delete the team before leaving. If you are still unable to leave, contact Warp support.
