Warp does not currently have a general-purpose extensions or mods API like VS Code, but there is clear interest from the community and some signals from the Warp team that extensibility is on their long-term roadmap.

Multiple GitHub issues and discussions highlight user requests for a plugin or extension system to allow for custom functionality, themes, UI widgets, and more. The Warp team has acknowledged these requests and indicated that they are interested in making Warp more extensible in the future. For example, they have mentioned plans to expose extension points into Warp’s GUI and to eventually open source the GUI itself, though this is not expected soon. The first steps toward extensibility have focused on features like custom themes and custom completions, but a full extension API is not yet available. The team has also pointed users to ongoing discussions to track interest and ideas for future extensibility features Discussion: Extending Warp with Custom Plugins / Extensions, Extension API for Warp, Plugins: spec - running list of ideas.

Currently, the main way to extend Warp is through MCP servers, which act as modular plugins for agents. However, broader extension/mod support beyond MCP is not yet implemented, and there is no public timeline for when such a system might arrive.

In summary: There are plans and community demand for extensions/mods beyond MCP servers, but nothing concrete or released yet. The Warp team is aware and interested, but extensibility beyond MCP is still in the future roadmap, not the present feature set.
