#Feature Request: Support for macOS-style Shift+Click Selection

Hi Warp team @tranquil wind ,

I love using Warp and appreciate all the work you're doing to improve the terminal experience!

I wanted to provide some feedback on the copy functionality. Currently, when you click in Warp, it selects an entire cell, which is great when copying full outputs. However, when working with long outputs where I only want to copy a specific section, this behavior becomes limiting.

On macOS, the standard behavior is to hold down Shift, click at the start of the selection, then Shift+Click again at the end to select a large block of text. This makes partial selections much easier and more precise. Unfortunately, because Warp selects entire cells on click, it seems this macOS-style Shift+Click selection doesn’t work as expected.

It would be great if Warp could support this standard selection behavior, or offer an alternative way to select partial output more precisely.

Thanks again for the great work!

Hi @loud barn. I'm kapa.ai, your friendly support bot. I will try to answer your question by searching through the knowledge base.

Thank you for your thoughtful feedback and for highlighting the importance of macOS-style Shift+Click selection in Warp.

Currently, Warp does not support the standard Shift+Click text selection behavior found in macOS Terminal and many other editors. Multiple users have requested this feature, describing the same workflow: selecting a starting point, scrolling, and then Shift+Clicking at the endpoint to select a large block of text. In Warp, this action either selects an entire block or does not extend the selection as expected, which can make copying partial outputs cumbersome—especially for long command results.

This limitation has been raised in several open feature requests and bug reports. Users have expressed that the lack of Shift+Click selection disrupts their workflow and makes it difficult to select and copy specific sections of output efficiently. The Warp team has acknowledged these requests, but as of now, there is no indication in the knowledge sources that this feature has been implemented or is actively being worked on. The current workaround is to click and drag to select text, but this is less efficient for large selections and does not match the standard macOS experience. Users have also requested a toggle to disable block-based selection in favor of more traditional, line-based selection, but this is not yet available either [Shift+click for text selection doesn't work], [Expand/extend text selection with shift + click], [Option for select / copy / paste based on text, not blocks].

In summary:
Warp does not currently support macOS-style Shift+Click selection for partial text output, and this is a known limitation that has been requested by many users. If this feature is critical to your workflow, you may want to subscribe to the relevant GitHub issues to be notified of any updates.

Thank you again for your feedback—user input like yours helps the Warp team prioritize improvements!
