Being able to assign a theme per tab would be helpful just to assist in never making mistakes about which server you're on. I have specific tabs set up for specific servers and I'd love to be able to visually see a difference for each. Being able to have a wallpaper with the server name on it for a couple of them would be great.
#Theme per tab

Hi @plain crane. I'm kapa.ai, your friendly support bot. I will try to answer your question by searching through the knowledge base.
Currently, Warp does not support assigning a full theme (including background, wallpaper, or font) per tab. The theme setting in Warp is global and applies across all windows, tabs, and panes. This limitation has been raised by many users who want to visually distinguish between different environments—such as having a red theme for production and a green one for development—similar to what is possible in iTerm2 or the macOS Terminal app. The ability to set a theme per tab or window is a highly requested feature and is being tracked in an open GitHub issue: Allow for different theme/background color selections per window/tab/pane.
As a partial workaround, Warp currently allows you to set a color for each tab. You can do this manually by right-clicking on a tab or by specifying a tab color in your launch configuration. However, this only changes the color indicator on the tab itself, not the full theme or background of the terminal pane. Many users have commented that this is not as visually distinct as a full theme change and have requested more robust theming options per tab or window. There is no current support for wallpapers with server names or similar visual cues per tab or session.
If this feature is important to you, you can add a 👍 to the GitHub issue and subscribe for updates. The Warp team uses this feedback to gauge interest and prioritize development. For now, the tab color feature is the closest available option for visually distinguishing tabs in Warp, but it does not provide the full theming capabilities you described Allow for different theme/background color selections per window/tab/pane.
Note: you can ask me a follow up question by @ mentioning me again :speech_balloon:
@plain crane Kapa.ai is still learning and improving, please let me know how I did by reacting below.
Please load into the Github issue in the response and add a thumbs up on the main post then add comments for feature you'd like to see if you have any additional ones.
For the time being, you can:
- rename a tab by double-clicking on it.
- change the color of a tab by right clicking on it and selecting one of the available colors.
