I'm trying to change the keybindings for next/previous tab/pane (since they were conflicting after an update, which is annoying in itself), but I can't save them. If I change them all to what I want, they are gone after a restart and doesn't even work before the restart. It's just back to what it was when I started changing.

Hi @gleaming sinew. I'm kapa.ai, your friendly support bot. I will try to answer your question by searching through the knowledge base.

Based on the knowledge sources provided, there are a few relevant issues and potential solutions to your problem with saving keybindings in Warp v0.2025.01.22.08.02.stable_03. Let me address the key points:

  1. Conflicting keybindings: This is a known issue that has affected users after updates. The developers have been working on fixes for this.

  2. Inability to save keybindings: This could be related to a few different issues:

    a. Permissions problem: Warp might be having trouble writing your settings to disk. The settings are typically stored in ${XDG_CONFIG_HOME:-$HOME/.config}/warp-terminal/user_preferences.json. You might want to check if this file exists and if Warp has write permissions to it.

    b. Syncing issues: If you're using Warp across multiple devices, there might be syncing issues. Some users have reported success by manually syncing the ~/.warp folder using git.

  3. Keybindings not working before restart: This could be due to conflicting keybindings that are not being properly overridden.

Here are some steps you can try:

  1. Clear conflicting keybindings: Make sure to clear any conflicting keybindings before setting new ones. For example, if you're trying to set keybindings for tab navigation, ensure that these keys are not already assigned to other functions like cursor navigation.

  2. Check for conflicts: In the Settings > Keyboard shortcuts menu, look for any conflict warnings when setting your new keybindings.

  3. Verify the settings file: Check the contents of your user_preferences.json file to see if your changes are being saved there.

  4. Permissions: Ensure Warp has the necessary permissions to write to its configuration directory.

#
  1. Manual backup: As a workaround, you could try manually backing up your ~/.warp or ~/.config/warp-terminal folder before updates, as suggested in this issue comment.

If these steps don't resolve your issue, it would be helpful to report this problem to the Warp development team with specific details about your setup and the exact keybindings you're trying to set.

Remember, the developers are actively working on improving keybinding functionality and resolving related issues, so future updates may address this problem more comprehensively.

Note: you can ask me a follow up question by @ mentioning me again :speech_balloon:
