Survival is one of the key components of Core Keeper, and we've even collaborated with other survival games like Abiotic Factor, so you can tell it's a genre that's close to our hearts. We'd love to know what other survival games you're playing and what you like about them. From awesome co-ops like Valheim to terrifying horror survivals like The Forest, what are your favourites?

Personally, I'm into survival games that have strong worldbuilding. Subnautica is one of my favourite games of all time, and I had a blast playing Grounded. Exploring all new worlds and landscapes that look drastically different to the world I live in now is so exciting to me. I love a good crafting system (one that isn't too convoluted) and I really enjoy survival games where you can work on a skill tree. I can take or leave co-op elements, and would prefer to play a game that was designed with single player in mind because I think some games rely too much on co-op and the single-player experience is way too challenging as a result.

Okay, over to you now, Explorers! What are your favourite survival games?

From the top of my head my favourite ones are most likely Terraria, Barotrauma, Valheim, Rimworld, and Project Zomboid. Some are more survival like with sustenance and temperature mechanics like Rimworld, Valheim and Zomboid. Others less so like Terraria and Barotrauma.

All of them got survival elements in them though. Trying to survive against the environment and/or monsters/enemies.

Minecraft is great and I love playing it with friends, it's very nostalgic lol.
My actual favorite, as silly as it is for this server, is actually core keeper. It has a perfect mix of different survival elements and chill vibes everywhere, it's just so fun and relaxing to play. Thanks to the devs for making my favorite survival game of all time EmbertailHeart

Personally i'm a big fan of building in any survival crafting building games

  • The one i'm currently enjoying to play is Enshrouded, the new Lighting Update is breathtaking, i can't wait to see how it turn out
  • I used to play Raft alot too back then, and those were my good old days
  • I also love playing Valheim, unfortunately i haven't had the chance to finish the project yet due to optimization issues, i hope they able to fix and optimize it in the next major update of deepnorth

my most fav parts of survival games is. Exploration, and enjoying upgrades. i could do without the base building aspect as my creativity stinks but my bases are basic. function over form. always

I dont really play many survival games but there is 3 besides Core Keeper that i really enjoy

Darkwood: my favorite, the horror elements are so well crafted that even when nothing is happening yet it still manages to get you anxoius as hell

Cataclysm Dark Days Ahead: Specifically the "The last generation" branch, a really difficult turn based hardcore zombie survival game that i been a fan of since a long time ago, it is very complex though and not really for everyone, generally you shouldnt get attached to your first 50 characters

Valheim: i been playing this one on and off for a while, its pretty nice, though i think the fact there arent really defined classes hurts replayability unless you have friends to play with

It’s probably Terraria.

  • Hundreds of different weapons and Armor sets.
  • A lot of cool Biomes
  • Tons of achievements
  • A GOOD and I mean REALLY GOOD modding community / support (We need that for CK too PLS)
  • Can’t forget the passionate developers

I also love the aspect of Automation in general.
Playing around with circuits. (Redstone from Minecraft as an example)
You can really do anything as long as the game provides enough items for it.
(Wouldn’t say no to a minor automation update in CK 😄 )

I loved Wildmender, it's beautiful and relaxing and I love chain reaction. I love planet crafter because of this too and because of it's many secret to reveal but that aren't necessary.
I spend quite a while on Vahleim too, I liked to explore and mine without thinking about anything else but the grinding got me a bit bored.
I barely played Minecraft because I make me motion sick a lot ...

My favorite survival games are currently Wurm Unlimited and Vintage Story. I like survival games that are realistic to the point of being tedious.

When it comes to survival games I tend to enjoy the crafting, building aspect with a lot of fighting.

I love Minecraft (modded), the forest, sons of forest, Icarus, enshrouded, sunkenland, raft, valheim. Oh and obviously I can't forget core keeper. I know I am missing a whole list of games that I play that are survival. One thing missing on many survival games are quests. That's why I enjoy Icarus and modded Minecraft, cause while I like to do my own thing I also like questing in my survival games.

This thread is making me realize I have missed SO MANY survival games haha. I'm a big fan of Don't Starve / Don't Starve Together and maybe not ENTIRELY a full on survival game but definitely No Mans Sky as it does have a survival mode and a lot of the elements exist. I have INSANE hours in that game.

And of course, Core Keeper, duh!

Minecraft, especially the mods that go into how early tech (stone age-+) worked and where success is something you have to seek out on purpose

Going Medieval is another fave - would recommend

Also cannot wait for Light No Fire

Not bad not bad. I can't seem to get into No Man's Sky for some reason. I have 99 minutes lol versus 4000 hours in Fallout 76. Light No Fire is on my wishlist! It looks pretty amazing so far.

Other than Core Keeper? Got to be V Rising. Survival is a hard sell to me, but when you frame it as vampires reclaiming the land, clawing your way back to the top of the food chain before your real human competition can, you have my attention.

Wizard With a Gun, Minecraft, and I’ve recently been dipping my toes into Terraria

This is a bit late to the party but it's Ark. Always and forever my comfort game even when it's not working that great. I also love Valheim, Subnautica and (if it counts) Astroneer
