Remove distractions
Hmmm
i found typically i procrastinate because a task seems too daunting, and at the end of the day, its as simple as you either did it or you didn't.
what is a good short-term remedy for that is to just do that thing for 5 minutes and then stop and do nothing. i stop. during that nothing time i think; i did the task! depending on whether it felt good or not, i'll act accordingly to make it an environment a bit more suitable, but i get to choose whether i do the task or not.
this is more of a personal thing, i found you gotta really look into what is "causing you" to procrastinate because it's different for everyone (but luckily there's science for this). for me it has always been a mental barrier more than anything; "its too much of a task, i wont get anything done in such short amount of time, what's the point" or it can also be the fact that a task is too ambiguous and dont know where to start.
based on this, and TLDR:
-
do X task for 5 minutes.
-
stop and do nothing
-
think about how that felt.
(a) felt good. continue.
(b) didnt feel good at all. what went wrong? what could i do better?
(c) ambiguous - give yourself another five minutes. -
SPECIFY YOUR TASK!!!! and get really specific in planning what you're going to work on
This method totally didn't work out for me
