Around 300 BC, Zeno of Citium founded the Stoic school of philosophy. He published a list of works on ethics, physics, logic, and other subjects, including his most famous work: Zenoโs Republic, which does sound quite similar to a dialogue authored by a philosopher named Plato.

Stoicism helps us steer through past and present storms into calmer and more peaceful waters. And if our ship sinks and we all drown, we can take peace in the fact that we lived a good...
โUnharmed prosperity cannot endure a single blow,โ says Seneca,
โThe chief task in life is simply this: to identify and separate matters so that I can say clearly to
myself which are externals not under my control, and which have to do with the choices I
actually control. Where then do I look for good and evil? Not to uncontrollable externals, but
within myself to the choices that are my own . . .โ

Do you meant Dyed* ?
indeed, it was a typo sorry
@uneven gale I want to present an Idea, Instead of just using the format you have given, cant we discuss our experience in using this meditations in real life, and have discussion on it and helping who are new? this way the forum can be more active
Well then ys surely do!๐
I think that's a better Idea
This forum is kind of semi:dead, if you/we want to continue, we either need to make a new, or renew it by announcing it again, Im sure we have more stoics

There are some things that are up to us, others that are not up to us. The things up to us are understanding, impulse, desire, aversion and, in a word, whatever acts are ours. The things not up to us are the body, possessions, reputation, professional positions and in a word, whatever acts are not ours.
Epictetus, Handbook 1
||well yes we can re-announce about it !! So that many stoics may be welcomed||. ||...and indeed sorry for late reply ๐ฅฒ||
Hello guys
โAs in war, so in life.โ
-Robert Greene.
Life is a battle both inside and out. And we must win those battles. There are attributes like discipline, sacrifice, courage, selflessness, clearheadedness and fortitude which help us win those battles. And cowardice, selfishness, disorganisation, rashness, weakness that makes us lose.
Now it's upto us to adopt which attributes to win or lose.

I am also reading this book. Did know it has this quote
it's in the body, not a "main" quote. But felt very powerful.
โIf you are defeated once and tell yourself you will overcome, but carry on as before, know in the end youโll be so ill and weakened that eventually you wonโt even notice your mistake and will begin to rationalize your behavior.โ
-Epictetus, Discourses on The Daily Stoic, June 22
Repeating the same things over and over hoping something good will happen, is insanity. We can choose to learn from our mistakes and tweak our routines and decisions. It is truly hard, but that's what produces the result.
Effort is what it takes.
Someone can recommend me some books about stoicism or with a beginner guide because sometimes i feel that I'm acting wrongly using the stoicism philosphy
The Daily Stoic - Ryan Holiday and Stephen Hanselman;
Meditations - Marcus Aurelius
Wrongly using stoicism? How did you conclude to that?
1-Thanks for the books. ๐ฅ
2-Ow I've been using the stoicism to hide my emotions from the rest of the people around of me, don't cry, without feel hard emotions like a Stone ๐ชจ. And sometimes i feel going to freak out ๐คก๐ฅ hiding my emotions and standing iut chill.
i see, well, that is not the way you should be. stoicism is not about hiding your emotions, but realising that there is a better way to handle them.
I finished the 1st month moving to 2nd month now
The greatest glory in life lies not in never falling,
But in rising everytime we fall
โIt is possible to curb your arrogance, to overcome pleasure and pain, to rise above your ambition, and to not be angry with stupid and ungrateful peopleโyes, even to care for them.โ
-Marcus Aurelius, Meditations on The Daily Stoic, June 29
It is very much possible to overcome our ego, not to be angry, and become a caring person. We can solve this just like any other problem. We can always work on it. We always have the choice to do good.
"In times of difficulty, remember that it is not what happens to you that matters but how you respond. Choose to be strong, resilient, and unwavering in the face of adversity." - Marcus Aurelius
โWhatever anyone does or says, for my part Iโm bound to the good. In the same way an emerald or gold or purple might always proclaim: โwhatever anyone does or says, I must be what I am and show my true colors.โโ
-Marcus Aurelius, Meditations on The Daily Stoic, July 1
i also had this idea, but i am not consistent
so plz contine doing it.
correct
can anyone recommend me which should be my first book on stocism
The Daily Stoic by Ryan Holiday.
you will get to learn a stoic lesson everyday. It is a good book.
Ok thanks I'll surely try this book
The little book on stoicism, how to be a stoic
meditations by marcus aurelius
Quote: โThrough not observing what is in the mind of another a man has seldom been seen to be unhappy; but those who do not observe the movements of their own minds must of necessity be unhappy.โ - Marcus Aurelius.
For a newbie how many pages/time would you like them to spend on it .
How u doin?
all that matters is that you absorb the lesson and integrate it with your life. The lessons should reflect on your actions. there's no particular time/page. jump to the day you're on and learn.
If you read 1 page a day, and apply it in your life that will be great....
Thank you both i appreciate it
Momento mori. How many weeks are left until I die? Pondering over my mortality. We got to make every week count!
Found this cool concept and website that showcases all the weeks in a life of a 90 year old person. You can input your own birthday and it generates how many weeks that have already been used up in your lifespan. I found this pretty cool to put into perspective human mortality and how much little time we really do have on earth.
If anyone wants to try it out search up "Your Life in Weeks"

One of my favs. Did you read the obstacle is the way by Ryan holiday?
Its there on my reading list....... Have you read it?
Dude, do it when you get the chance hahaha
I did read it. It's one of my favs now. For me, the main quote is this one from Marcus. It made me see life a little more clear and realistic. Also, the author gives good practical advices.
The beginning of all virtue is reflection and deliberation, and its end and perfection, constancy - Demosthenes
This is going to be controversial but I will share in hopes of finding people with similar mindsets. I'm 21 and stoicism is stupid to some point. It's great for beginners to rationally, productively and being a man (could also work for some women) but at the end of the day it's about improving yourself (health, wealth, relationships). Relationships are not that hard since you are usually born with them, but a friend or 2 with similar mindsets would be nice in my situation, health can be expensive if your overdoing it as a normal person would say for me (buying organic, eating healthy, working out, avoiding toxic products...) but if you just want to be healthier because you're currently not its not that expensive. Wealth is the biggest factor here. It is the physical reality we live in and why most of us got into stoicism in the first place. And stoicism after some point has nothing to do with it. It's all about doing something to get yourself out of it. If anyone resonates with these points and is on self improvement please message me, I'm looking for like-minded people. Forgive me for my spelling mistakes, I'm fluent in English when it comes to talking but when it comes to writing, not perfect.
