I know torpedoes are 'steerable' for a bit after launch, but the Oberon had torpedoes that were wire-guided for I believe 200-ish metres after launch, at the very least in Australian service. Is this an oversight, or a balance decision?

With current visibility, it would be unbalanced unless your view degraded in the presence of decoys

Yes. Lots of screen clutter with that approach, though

Another approach is to turn the ship with decoys into a missing contact arrow only, and the decoys too

Although I imagine that approach to be a bit clunky

And then BVR a sub could use torpedos as decoys
