Highlighting your own message would help you know which message you sent. How would it change what your friends see?

Wouldn't it be easier to tell your friends in advance you will say 36633 in chat (pick random 5 digit #) and then send it?

Maybe if there's multiple people with the same name there could be a number in square brackets to show the difference.

pros:

everyone can tell the difference
simple; doesn't require account system

cons:

names look worse e.g. Guest is a bit nicer than[27]Guest
confusion with team names e.g. [Team] [3] Name
doesn't tell you which one is real
