The concept of this product is purchase a card that is usable for an entire season or more. Put full emphasis on that concept and have a single preseason drop. Put all energy, marketing, etc into making that drop work with the financials. The concept is simple make all supply available when full utility exists.
Allow the secondary market to provide entry to any new players, which are pretty rare through the year. Also installs a sense of FOMO for the players that might did not get in at the start of the season similar to how fold passes went.
This should help with DKs overhead since you can align resources and staff up to create this big launch and scale down to just running contests. Instead of wasting money on thinking of the best way to sell and market the next drop, do it all correctly up front and let the season play out, focus the financials on contest quality and prizing and away from mid season customer acquisition and marketing which is a loosing prospect for this type of product, no one wants to start playing with partial utility.
Bottom line is the product is becoming too close to DFS, with volume based entry to play every angle taking over and has completely lost sight of its goal to build your own franchise and complete for a season.
