Definitely not too much. Too little is debatable. I've seen channels do very well with clean, simple thumbnails like this. I personally like it 👍

I think it’s great! Depending on your audience and stuff I wonder if it would just be better to show a really pretty water color instead of you
If you do try that try using a watercolor technique that looks complicated and is very eye catching
Also make sure it’s not detailed so that it looks good when thumbnail shrinks on Home Screen
Or use a particularly detailed one that still looks good in the distance
