"Based on Stripe’s prior communication with the French regulator, were a Platform to collect KYC data on our behalf, the regulators would view the Platform as an agent/distributor of Stripe. The Platform would need to apply to be such an agent with the CBI/FCA and they would have AML obligations directly imposed on them. Stripe would also need to conduct due diligence and oversight on the Platform to ensure they are compliant with these new regulatory obligations. Therefore, to minimize the burdens on our Platforms (and on Stripe), Stripe requires our French Platforms use a hosted solution to collect KYC data."
