When you mention "12 monthly payments of $Y, or 6 monthly payments of $Z", why is it not a subscription which you will charge a customer on monthly basis?
We're effectively acting as a finance provider by allowing them to pay off the thing they purchased over time. But they can't decide to cancel their repayments after x months.
Subscriptions appear to be "pay $X/interval" and nothing more. I.e they have no end date, and they are cancellable by the customer. Doesn't appear to fit.
