Hello ๐Ÿ‘‹
Give me a moment to catch up and I'll respond as soon as possible ๐Ÿ™‚ thanks

#

Thanks for waiting, I'm not sure how long it takes for banks/issuers to release the authorized amount and reflect it on the statements but I believe If you auth 1000 first and 1200 later, it would block $2200 until the first auth reversal is reflected

#

whats the use-case here?

Basically we take an auth when a customer wants to purchase an item because we need to confirm the availability of the item.

If the customer changes his mind he can cancel the purchase

#

which would release the auth

#

but if a few moments later he wants to purchase another item, we would repeat the cycle

#

and I was concerned about blocking the 2,200 (in the example above)

#

I'm wondering if there's no better solution ?

#

I saw there is a way to increase the amount of an existing auth ?

I'd say not to place an auth until you can confirm the availability of the item and save the details for a charge later on.

but then how will I confirm the customer is able to pay ?

We are a marketplace

AFAIK that feature is only offered to restaurants but you can reach out to our support team to see if there are any alternatives

and we won't bother the seller before we can confirm the customer has the means to pay

#

Otherwise, I'll reuse the same auth if the amount is lower

#

or generate a new one for the difference if the new amount is higher

#

can I do that ?

#

I mean, is it technically OK to create more than one auth per customer (with the same card) ?

It is. The way I've seen it done is the other way around where if the inventory isn't there, a merchant wouldn't place an auth on the payment method.

#

Its just that you'd have a lot of customers reaching out to you about multiple auths

I agree, this is far from being ideal. but we can't ask for a merchant to lock an item if the customer isn't able to pay for it (we are talking limited edition items)

#

the best would have been for Stripe to handle this in a smart way behind the scene ๐Ÿ˜‰
