Looking in to if you can override these in the API. Which of our products are you using along with Tax here? Is this Checkout or Invoices or something else? It will also probably be helpful to reach out to our support to tell them about the places where you are seeing incorrect rates if you have not already https://support.stripe.com/?contact=true

We use them with Stripe Subscriptions if that helps - thanks

After looking in to this a bit, I don't think that overriding these rates the way that you are looking for is possible. If you raise this with support, we should be able to look in to correcting them so that the automatic behavior is correct

Hmm ok - is there anyway to earmark some subscription invoices as ones we will manually apply taxes too to bypass Stripe Tax entirely?

Good question. Are you asking about how to identify invoices like that, how to manually apply the taxes, or both?

fierce epoch

well it's easy for us to identify those invoices I think - but right now taxes are just automatically applied to the invoices I believe

#

So trying to see if we can skip using Stripe Tax for these invoices

Thank you for the clarification. Looking in to if you can override that there

Hi there 👋 taking over for @rigid shell

Give me a few minutes to get caught up.

Oh eh yeah - is that really the only way? The reliance on building out an entire webhooks infra to support this... is not ideal

#

Thanks for the idea though

#

I guess to put the problem another way, 95% of Stripe Tax works great for us - we just have problems with 5% of the cases and the lack of overrides is problematic at this point.

That's the only way, since Invoices are auto-generated by the Subscription and essentially have to be "intercepted" if you want to update them before finalization.

#

I hear you. Once you get into supporting edge-cases regarding tax at the global scale, things can definitely get complicated very quickly

I guess my feedback / request if you could relay would be that Stripe Tax not be so prescriptive about the rates and realize the nature of the complexity means that we cannot always use what Stripe Tax chooses for us - and we should ideally be able to opt out and / or override Stripe Tax behavior for some invoices.

#

We are at the scale where tax compliance really matters so it's hard for us to trust the out of the box solution and its often wrong

#

Not through Stripe's fault - just because of inherent complexity in taxes

That's valid. Our support folks have a workflow for surfacing feedback to the product team, so if you'd like to create a thread with them, I can ensure it get's added to the right channels
