Checking in to this. While I am looking, can you tell me a bit more about why you are looking to refund that way?

#

That may be helpful if this is not directly possible.

We don't always have a receipt for returns and sometimes a return happens at a different store, so we are wondering if we can just refund returned items to a card without having to find the associated payment id (or in some cases it may not exist if it was lost or done at a different location)

#

Also, we don't really want the headache of having our employees looking up old transactions if not needed. They can simply look at a receipt and add the item as a return via the SKU.

#

If not a return, maybe there is a way to send a credit card payment with a credit amount?

Gotcha. So that isn't currently possible in our API though I would recommend writing in to support with your use case here. They may be able to help set you up with something to help out in those situations https://support.stripe.com/?contact=true

Ok, what happens if a customer's credit card is cancelled and you try and issue a refund. Is there a way to complete a refund in this scenario?

#

I suppose we can resort to a cash refund, if all else fails.

With our current API I don't know if there is a good way to address refunds to cancelled cards but I will look.

Ok, and there is no way to send a credit amount to a credit card (other than a refund)? Is that statement correct? I tried processing a simulated payment for a negative amount, but the api returned an invalid amount error.

As far as I know, refunds are the only way to do that payments wise.

Ok, thanks.
