Hi there!
Are you asking whether you can use the same bank token to create an external account and also charge an end-customer?
No that's not possible since the bank token will be consumed once used as an external account.
You would need to get another bank token in order to do this.
We're curious if we can create ACH payments for customers and allow them to create a Stripe Connect custom account by only entering their bank info through Plaid one time
Hmm give me a moment to think if there is any workaround here
Thanks Bismark
Just to be super clear, our customers initallly come to our site to buy something, which we want to use ACH out. Then when they come back the second time, they sell something which requires ACH in. Ideally they don't have to reauthenticate their bank details when they come back the second time.
Yep I understand. I don't think cloning will work here, but that would be the workaround. Let me test it real quick.
Cloning, interesting. Do you have any documentation for that?
The reason I don't think it will work is that I think the bank token needs to be on your platform account
And to clone means cloning it over to your Connected Account
But I'm not 100% on that... maybe we do let you set an external account if the token is on the Connected account
Ah actually no pretty sure this won't work.
Because once again the bank token isn't what is going to be cloned
It is the bank account itself
I'll still double check
Right now we're only using Plaid for creating Connect accounts for payouts
we're using Stripes PaymentElement for Bank ACH payments
Actually
This may work fine
Indeed it does. When you clone we do give you the token
Okay so here would be the flow @tawdry cradle
- collect plaid bank token on platform
- attach bank token to a Customer
- Clone bank token from platform to Connected account
- Set as external account on Connected Account
Now you can both charge the customer on your platform as well as use that bank account for payouts on the Connected Account
oh awesome!
so we can attach that bank ach method to a customer, then create a connect account using the same bank token?
Yep if you clone it
