You mostly can't, you have to follow the rules mostly
You use Direct charges right?
card network rules are really strict with statement descriptors
you can't just put what you want, and with Direct you also can't really control what your connected accounts are setting up unfortunately
It's just tedious to have to log into everyone's dashboard and manually make sure they configured everything correctly, so if I could change it from my end it would be a lot easier
You can if you control the Standard account
you have full access via the API as long as you create that account yourself via the API (and not OAuth)
Well, the field gives me "put what I want"-capabilities on the dash, does it not? I'm not following?
then you can set their default statement descriptor
How?
the API said that was custom and express only
unless I'm looking at the wrong thing
yeah but it works with Standard also as long as you control the accounts, which means you created them yourself via the API and not via OAuth
I was not aware this was an option for Standard
How does onboarding work then? Can you link something relevant?
we changed the default integration a year ago now and that changes what your platform has access to: https://stripe.com/docs/connect/oauth-changes-for-standard-platforms
I'd recommend trying it on your end to confirm it fits your needs. "controlled" is quite confusing as a term with Standard accounts unfortunately 😦
Yeah I have to take a look at this again, because we currently do "create a Stripe account, then come on our website and connect it"
And for these I sometimes don't get Platform controls, not sure why
yeah you don't get controls with OAuth in most cases
But just to recap; if I do it this way, then I can set https://stripe.com/docs/api/accounts/update#update_account-settings-payments-statement_descriptor ?
I think so, haven't tried in a while so I'd recommend just trying for a few minutes. I know you can set them on create, but not sure on update after the account onboarded
Hmm okay. It needs to be update-able from our end for it to make sense to invest time into
For now
Yeah it doesn't have the "express or custom" tag on create, only on update
