yes it's better. current_period_end tells you when the period ends, but the subscription hasn't been renewed yet, this is all done by background jobs, then the invoice needs to be paid, etc. so you need to give more time than just the period end

What if they cancel? will it immediately switch the status to cancelled even if they have time left in subscription?

or will it wait until billing period ends
