As long as you're setting default payment method on customer, you should be fine.
In order for subsequent charges to work, either the customer or the subscription has to have a default payment method.

Thanks - As I am using the subscriptions' default payment setting to set the default for the customer, I am assuming that the subscription default payment will always be present - is that correct?
