So it could be related to the nesting that .createPortal would apply
have you tested it without it? does it show the same error?

I haven't yet, partially because it kind of needs to live in that modal, but I can throw everything into a regular component outside of a modal real fast and make sure it's not some other config

Oh my goodness, while moving everything over to a new component I realized what the issue was lol. I'm so sorry to waste your time. I had all the styled components inside of the functional component. As soon as I moved them outside of it, everything worked. 😢
