Unfortunately I don't think that subscriptions support seperate auth and capture.

Can you tell me a bit more about these subscriptions and why you want to do something like that flow?

We aren't using Stripe subscriptions. Just the Stripe Invoice piece. My main question is when the Stripe Invoice is sent, and the customer pays for the invoice can we just authorize their card rather than capturing the full payment?

I don't think that you can do that with Invoices but you can collect payment method info via a Checkout Session in setup mode https://stripe.com/docs/payments/save-and-reuse?platform=checkout
