Really?
Test mode mirrors Live mode. If you didn't have to do that then Tax wouldn't work in Live mode and you'd be a lot more mad after
Oh I see
This is what my dashboard looks like
As you can see I’m registered in Ohio and New York
okay so what's blocking you?
what do you mean "not in the non test mode"
Sorry, you are clearly a bit frustrated, but I need real info to help!
Live mode?
if you give me a clear example of a transaction without tax, I can help you look!
Ok just one moment let me explain the situation just to give a bit of context
We enabled stripe tax on the test mode. Not live mode or whatever the mode that is not the test mode is called. It taxes perfectly for anywhere in Canada. We are located in Canada. But when we try to test in the states no tax is calculated at all.
Let me get you a transaction ID to give you an example
Can you see that or now?
nope. Can you just give me any Stripe object id?
Ok

I think this is for the id for the invoice

The first one is for Canada
These are the links to the json files and invoice pdfs generated
The Canadian one and the Ohio one look totally different
All good I don't need any of those
All good I just need the id
Of the invoice?
yes but I have it, I don't need the rest, I'm just digging into what's causing this
Ok thank you so much
Okay so someone on my team says that tax in OHIO is... weird and so we don't charge there. But now looking at your NYC one
can you try a California one like Los Angeles or something in the meantime?
Tax in the US is really complex. I don't know much about the specificities myself, I just know that each state has their own subtle rules overall and I tend to test with specific states like California + LA. For example Texas has custom rules where you apply tax only to 80% of the amount and that has confused more than one developers
Interesting because I saw on your page that you could register in Ohio
It also was an option to register
That’s what I was following. It lists Ohio as an option
you can register, but there are specific rules for it. I'm not really the right person to explain this unfortunately, I only focus on the code
Oh ok maybe if support gets back to me they might be able to get a tax expert
yeah sorry I got nothing, I tried on my own Canadian account even in California I see the same thing
You see that it’s not taxing?
this is really really weird. They said that this will work in Canada and US
Correct I see no tax, but it could be many different things, tax codes, the default one or your account, address resolution. I'm just not seeing anything obvious and so going back to the support team is the best option
Ok well I emailed them 3 times in the last week and I haven’t received a response yet
But it’s not the code
So that’s good I guess
correct it's not the code. It's either something special with tax between Canada and US, or some configuration issue
I just don't know what could cause this unfortunately
